Development that could meet present needs without compromising the existance of future generations.

Ecological Footprint
The amount of productive land and water to produce all the resources consumed and absorb all waste generated using prevailing technology.

Australia's global Ha usage is 7.7Ha per person.

I think the ecological footprint is a good way to assess and compare our sustainability. It gives an almost factual basis for the need for sustainability, and how much we are neglecting it.

One ecological footprint I would be interested in knowing is China. As it is such a hugely populated, high density, developing country, i believe it could be using up massive amounts of resources without replacing many of them.

Although I know they would not be the only one, I think it would be one of the promary areas to target due to their massive population in comparison to other countries. Similar to looking at how we can locally change things...if we go for small changes over a wider population, the result will be more productive than dramatic changes in a couple of small areas.
